A variety of tools are needed for spark plug replacement, including a spark plug socket, extensions, gap gauge, and plug wire removal tool. For 3800 V6 engines, a special tool is required to remove spark plug heat shields. Use a torque wrench to tighten the new plugs, and always let the engine cool before working on the plugs. Before removing the old plugs, check the new ones for defects and adjust the gaps as needed. To install the plugs, thread them in by hand, tighten with a torque wrench, and use a rubber hose for ease and to prevent cross-threading. Inspect the plug wires and use a twisting motion to attach them to the new plugs one at a time to avoid mix-ups.
