Q:
How to remove and install a PNP switch on a Chevrolet Express for Chevrolet Express? Posted by Customer
A:
Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Apply the parking brake and put the shift lever in NEUTRAL. Raise the vehicle and place it securely on jackstands. Unplug the electrical connectors from the Neutral Safety Switch. Disconnect the shift cable from the manual lever. Remove the manual lever retaining nut and remove the manual lever from the manual shaft. Be careful not to move the manual lever from the NEUTRAL position while removing it. If you accidentally move the lever, install the manual lever on the manual shaft again and reposition the lever at NEUTRAL before removing the Neutral Safety Switch. Remove the switch retaining bolts and detach the switch from the transmission. If you're installing a new switch, align the slots on the switch with the alignment marks on the switch and the notch in the edge of the switch. Then install the switch onto the manual shaft. If you're installing the old switch, simply align the flats of the shift shaft with the flats of the Neutral Safety Switch and install the switch. Installation is otherwise the reverse of removal. When you're done, verify that the engine will start only in PARK or NEUTRAL. If it starts in any other gear, readjust the switch. To readjust the switch, loosen the switch mounting bolts and turn the switch slightly one way or the other until the engine now only starts in PARK or NEUTRAL, then tighten the mounting bolts securely.

Q:
How do you remove and install a TR switch on Chevrolet Avalanche,Silverado,Suburban,Tahoe,GMC Sierra,Yukon,Yukon Denali and Yukon XL? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the Automatic Transmission Shift Position Sensor Switch, first apply the parking brake and put the shift lever in NEUTRAL. Then, raise the vehicle and place it securely on jackstands. Disconnect the electrical connector from the Automatic Transmission Shift Position Sensor Switch by pulling out the retainer lock, sliding the retainer out, and pulling off the connector. Pry the shift cable from the pin to disconnect it from the manual lever. Remove the manual lever nut and the manual lever itself. Finally, remove the Automatic Transmission Shift Position Sensor Switch mounting bolts and the switch itself. To install a new switch, align the slots on the switch with the notch on the switch body and install it onto the shaft. If installing the old unit, align the flats of the shift shaft with the flats of the Automatic Transmission Shift Position Sensor Switch and install it. After installing the switch, verify that the engine will start only in PARK and NEUTRAL. If it starts in any other gear, readjust the switch by loosening the mounting bolts and turning it slightly one way or the other until the engine starts only in PARK and NEUTRAL, then tighten the mounting bolts securely.

Q:
What is the Park/Lock system and how do you remove and install the actuator on Chevrolet Avalanche,Silverado,Suburban,Tahoe,GMC Sierra,Yukon,Yukon Denali and Yukon XL? Posted by Customer
A:
The Park/Lock system is designed to prevent the shift lever from being moved out of Park unless the brake pedal is depressed simultaneously, and to prevent the ignition key from being removed from the ignition switch unless the shift lever is in the Park position. To remove the actuator, the vehicle should be parked with the shift lever in Neutral, the parking brake set, and the airbag system disabled. The wiring should be disconnected, and the actuator pried off of the cable shift cam and steering column. The actuator should then be snapped onto the cable shift cam and steering column cover, and the wiring reconnected. The adjuster block should be pressed to disengage the internal teeth of the mechanism, and then slid away from the actuator as far as possible. To install the actuator, the tab should be pushed in to lock it in place, and the battery reconnected. The operation of the actuator should be checked by making sure that the lever can only be moved out of Park when the brake pedal is depressed, and readjusted if necessary. Finally, the knee bolster should be reinstalled.
