- A:For 2WD models, the removal process of the shock absorber involves removing the upper shock mounting nut using a backup wrench, followed by removing the retainer and grommet. The vehicle is then raised and supported on jackstands, and the lower end of the shock absorber is detached from the lower control arm by removing two bolts. The shock absorber can then be pulled out from below, and the lower grommet and retainer are removed from the stem. The installation process is the reverse of removal, with the upper mounting nut and lower mounting bolts tightened to the proper torque specifications. For 4WD models, the removal process starts by raising the vehicle and supporting it on jackstands. The lower shock mounting nut, washer, and bolt are then removed, with attention paid to the direction in which the bolt points. The shock absorber is collapsed and the upper shock mounting nut, washer, and bolt are removed, again noting the direction of the bolt. The shock absorber can then be removed. The installation process is the reverse of removal, with the bolts installed in the same direction as before and all fasteners tightened to the correct torque specifications.Posted by GMPartsGiant Specialist
