Before disconnecting the battery, move the power seat(s) fully to the rear. For 2015 and earlier 2.0L models and all 2.5L models, start by disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. Then, drain the cooling system and save the coolant if it's in good condition. Release the clamps holding the heater hoses at the firewall and disconnect the hoses. Remove the left-side insulating panel and the driver's knee bolster. Pull back the front carpet to expose the heater core. Remove the driver's side rear floor duct and unclip the heater core tube clamps. Remove the heater core bracket and disconnect the tubes from the heater core. Carefully remove the heater core from the vehicle. For 2016 and later 1.5L and 2.0L models, have the air conditioning system discharged by a professional. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal and drain the cooling system. Release the clamps holding the heater hoses at the firewall and disconnect the hoses. Disconnect the line from the TXV valve. Remove the instrument panel and tie bar, as well as the brake and accelerator pedal assembly. Remove the HVAC housing fasteners from the engine compartment side. Remove the heater tube seals and the support bracket fastener. Open up the bracket on the HVAC housing and remove the heater core from the side of the HVAC housing. When installing, fill the cooling system with the proper mixture of antifreeze and water. Start the engine and check for leaks, then allow it to reach normal operating temperature. Recheck the coolant level and add more if necessary. Finally, have the system evacuated, recharged, and leak tested by a professional.
