If you suspect insufficient fuel delivery, start by checking all fuel lines for leaks and ensuring there is enough fuel in the tank. Then, have someone turn the ignition switch to the ON position while you listen for a whirring sound from the fuel pump. If you hear the sound, proceed to the pressure check. If not, check the fuel pump fuse and relay, and if they are good, diagnose the PCM. If the pump does not run, disconnect the electrical connector from the fuel pump module and check for power and continuity. If power is present and the ground circuit is good but the pump still doesn't operate, replace the fuel pump. For the pressure check, relieve the fuel pressure and attach a fuel pressure gauge to the test port. Turn the ignition key on and note the pressure reading. If the pressure is lower than specified, check the fuel pressure regulator and fuel lines for restrictions. If the pressure is higher than specified, check the fuel return line for restrictions. If the pressure is within specifications, start the engine and check the fuel pressure with the engine running. If the pressure doesn't decrease with vacuum applied to the fuel pressure regulator, replace the regulator. Finally, monitor the fuel pressure for five minutes after turning off the engine. If the pressure drops more than 5 psi, there may be a leak in the fuel line, a leaking fuel injector, or a defective pressure regulator or fuel pump module check valve. Relieve the fuel pressure before removing the gauge. For 2005 and later models, use a fuel pressure gauge compatible with high-pressure fuel injection systems and connect it to the Schrader valve-type test port on the fuel feed line. Follow similar steps to check the fuel pressure and diagnose any issues.

If necessary, the fuel pressure sensor and fuel level sending unit should be transferred to the new fuel pump module assembly.
