- A:The Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor or the Manifold Differential Pressure (MDP) sensor monitors changes in pressure inside the intake manifold and converts this information into a variable voltage output to the PCM. The PCM sends a 5-volt reference voltage to the sensor and uses the returning signal to monitor changes in intake manifold pressure. The sensor output voltage is used by the PCM to control fuel delivery and ignition timing, as well as to determine EGA valve operation. To check the sensor, remove it and connect a hand-held vacuum pump to the vacuum pipe. Apply vacuum and check the voltage output to ensure it falls within the specified range. If not, replace the sensor. To replace the sensor, detach the vacuum hose (if applicable), unplug the electrical connector, remove the mounting bolts, and then install the new sensor.Posted by GMPartsGiant Specialist
