- Q:How do you remove and install the CMP sensor? Posted by Customer
- A:Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. For 5.7L (LS1/LS6) engines, the CMP sensor is located at the rear of the engine, under the intake manifold. Remove the intake manifold. Disconnect the CMP sensor electrical connector. Remove the CMP sensor mounting bolt and remove the CMP sensor. Clean the area around the CMP sensor before removing it to prevent debris from falling into the engine once the sensor is removed. Pull the sensor up and out of the engine. Remove the CMP sensor O-ring and inspect its condition. If it's cracked, torn or otherwise deteriorated, replace it. Lubricate the sensor O-ring with clean engine oil. Installation is otherwise the reverse of removal. For 6.0L (LS2), 6.2L (LS3/LS9) and 7.0L (LS7) engines, the sensor is located at the front of the engine, mounted on the timing chain cover. Remove the drive belts and idler pulley. Remove the power steering pump. Remove the alternator, then remove the bracket mounting bolts and bracket. Remove the sensor and jumper harness assembly mounting bolts from the timing chain cover. Disconnect the engine harness electrical connector from the jumper harness connector, then disconnect the sensor from the jumper harness connector. Remove the CMP sensor O-ring and inspect its condition. If it's cracked, torn or otherwise deteriorated, replace it. Lubricate the sensor O-ring with clean engine oil.
