- Q:How to replace Coolant Temperature Sensor in a Chevrolet Nova? Posted by Customer
- A:If the temperature warning light doesn't come on when the ignition switch is turned on, check the bulb. If the light stays on even with the engine cold, unplug the wire at the sending unit. The coolant temperature sending unit is located on the left side between the spark plugs. If the light goes off, replace the sending unit. If the light stays on, the wire is grounded somewhere in the harness. If the temperature gauge is inoperative, check the fuse. If the fuse is OK, unplug the wire connected to the sending unit and ground it with a jumper wire. Turn on the ignition switch momentarily. The gauge should register at maximum. If it does, replace the sending unit. If it's still inoperative, the gauge or wiring may be faulty. To replace the sending unit, unplug the wire connected to the sending unit. Unscrew the sending unit and quickly install the new unit to prevent loss of coolant. Tighten the sending unit securely.
