If equipped with Computer Command Ride, detach the electrical connector; then go ahead to remove the strut tower mounting nuts from inside the trunk. Remove the bolts, washers and nuts from knuckle and stabilizer bar bracket in order to free up the strut. When installing strut ensure wiring is upright and centered on strut mount if equipped with Computer Command Ride. Strut tower mounting nuts tightened to 19 ft. lbs. (25 Nm) and strut-to-knuckle nuts tightened to 140 ft. lbs. (190 Nm). Lubricate air line O-rings with lubricant, then push air line into fitting while connecting it fully into housing opening wetting rings of fitted up pipe fastener. For 1993-98 Eldorado & Seville Models- raise & safely support vehicle, remove wheel & tire assembly, disconnect electronic level control height sensor link if removing left strut; install two lug nuts to hold rotor on hub & bearing assembly, remove mounting bolt at strut if equipped with stabilizer bar; remove rear brake caliper loosening parking brake cable first that requires removing cable support bracket after you suspend caliper in such a way so it would not hang down from its housing more than needed during this process as well. Loosen but do not remove knuckle pivot bolt at outer end of control arm; support outer end of control arm with suitable jack or jackstand if necessary.   Q: How do you remove and install MacPherson struts on a Cadillac ElDorado and Fleetwood?

  A: Follow these instructions to remove and replace your vehicle's struts. Begin by disconnecting the negative battery cable. Then, raise and securely support the vehicle, ensuring it's supported by the frame with the control arms hanging freely. Remove the wheel and tire assembly. On Eldorado and Seville models, if equipped, detach the electrical connector from the top of the strut. On Deville and Fleetwood models, loosen the strut housing tie bar through bolts at each end. For Eldorado and Seville models with a 4.6L engine, remove the road sensing suspension position sensor from the lower control arm. Remove the nuts attaching the top of the strut to the body. For Deville and Fleetwood models equipped with anti-lock brakes, disconnect the wheel speed sensor and remove the sensor bracket from the strut. On Eldorado and Seville models, remove the stabilizer link from the strut, and also remove brake line bracket from strut too. Finally, remove rear upper control arm (rear stabilizer or trailing arm) to knuckle bolt(s), toe link bolt(s) if necessary; separate rear knuckle from toe link(s). To install new strut attach it to knuckle using bolts & nuts( fig.). Then attach strut to body with nuts as shown in figure . For Deville and Fleetwood models place washer on tie bar before installing strut-to-body nuts (fig.). Install brake line bracket onto strut . On Eldorado and Seville connect stabilizer link to strut . For DeVille & Fleetwood w/anti-lock brakes install wheel speed sensor bracket & connect sensor . Install road sensing suspension sensor through lower control arm nipple at top of strut- E/S only (see Fig. 16). Tighten struts/knuckles to 190 Nm (140 ft lbs), struts/body to 24 Nm (18 ft lbs), links/bar throughs to 65 Nm (48 ft lbs), tie bar through bolts to 27 Nm (20 ft lbs). Finally, install the wheel and tire assembly, lower the vehicle, and check and adjust the front wheel alignment as necessary. To overhaul an entire strut assembly mount it in a strut compressor tool, like J-34013 or equivalent. Use the compressor forcing screw to tighten the spring slightly. Use T-50 Torx socket to keep the turning of strut shaft while removing nut off top of shaft. Loosen screw on compressor while guiding strut shaft out of assembly. Continue loosening compressor screw until you can remove strut and spring. Install by placing strut into compressor tool using clamping tool J-34013-20 or its equivalent for holding shaft of strut firm as shown in figure . Put spring over strut with flat in upper seat facing away from centerline of vehicle or in same direction as steering knuckle mounting flange. If removed from upper spring seat reinstall it in same position before attaching to suspension mount. Turn compressing screw so that spring is compressed when guiding the strut through top plate hole of a multi-link-type suspension system if necessary use tool J-34013-38 or its equivalent to guide shaft . Compressing screw until threaded area of shaft protrudes above surface top plate hole at bottom Install washer & nut when threads appear through top . If using J-34013-20 clamp remove clamp from shaft at end and tighten shaft nut with T-50 Torx bit while it is being holded in place (Torx Bit) ft lbs. Finally, remove from tool (fig.).
