  Q: How do you remove the steering column?

  A: To remove the steering column, start by parking the vehicle with the wheels pointing straight ahead and disconnecting the battery's negative terminal. Disable the airbag system and then remove the steering column covers and Steering Wheel. Next, remove the airbag clockspring and the insulating panel from below the dash. Remove the knee bolster and knee bolster support from under the steering column. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the steering column switches and remove the wiring harness from the column. Move the boot seal away from the intermediate shaft coupler and mark the relationship of the steering column shaft to the coupler. Remove the pinch-bolt by removing the nut first and check for any remaining electrical connectors or wiring harnesses that may interfere with removal. Finally, remove the steering column mounting fasteners and carefully guide the column out. To install the steering column, guide it back into position and connect the steering shaft with the intermediate shaft coupler, ensuring the alignment of the marks. Install the mounting fasteners and tighten the bolts and nuts to the proper torque specifications. Install the intermediate shaft coupler pinch-bolt and nut, tightening the nut to the correct torque specifications. The remainder of the installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
