Disable the airbag system and turn the ignition key to the LOCK position to prevent the steering shaft from turning. Mark the relationship of the upper steering shaft to the lower steering shaft. Remove the shaft coupler nut and the bolt securing the lower steering shaft to the upper, noting the direction of the bolt for reinstallation.
