  Q: How do you remove the steering wheel?

  A: To remove the steering wheel, start by parking the vehicle with the wheels pointing straight ahead and disconnecting the battery. Disable the airbag system and then detach the airbag module by inserting a blunt round tool into the holes on each side of the steering wheel. Lift the airbag module away from the steering wheel and disconnect the electrical connectors. Remove the steering wheel nut and mark the relationship of the steering wheel to the shaft. Use a steering wheel puller to remove the steering wheel, disconnect any remaining electrical connectors, and lift the steering wheel off the shaft. If necessary, remove the clockspring by removing the steering column covers and unplugging the electrical connectors. Spread the retaining tabs and slide the clockspring assembly from the steering column. To install the clockspring, ensure it is centered with the arrows aligned on the clockspring face. If the shaft was turned, center the clockspring by turning the hub clockwise until it stops, then counterclockwise and half the number of turns recorded previously. Install the yellow locking tab or use tape to prevent the clockspring hub from moving. Installation is the reverse of removal, making sure the airbag clockspring is centered before installing the steering wheel, aligning the marks on the shaft and steering wheel hub, and tightening a new steering wheel nut to the correct torque specifications. Finally, install the airbag module and enable the airbag system.
