  Q: How to replace a fuel filter in a Chevrolet Tracker?

  A: This job should be done with the engine cold, after it has been sitting for at least three hours. Place a metal container, rags or newspapers under the filter to catch any spilled fuel. For carburetor equipped models, the fuel filter is located under the vehicle near the rear differential. To replace the filter, loosen the clamps and slide them down the hoses, past the fittings on the filter. Carefully twist and pull on the hoses to separate them from the filter. If the hoses are in bad shape, now would be a good time to replace them with new ones. Pull the filter out of the clip and install the new one, then hook up the hoses and tighten the clamps securely. Start the engine and check carefully for leaks at the filter hose connections. For fuel injected models, depressurize the fuel system. The fuel filter can be found in the fuel feed line attached on the chassis frame above the upper right hand side of the rear differential. To replace the filter, loosen the flange fittings using two wrenches or remove the clips and detach the hoses. Replace the old seals on flange type fittings. Note how the filter is installed so the new filter doesn't get installed backwards. If the hoses are in bad shape, now would be a good time to replace them with new ones. Remove the filter. Install the new filter in the clamp and tighten the bolts. Make sure the filter is properly oriented, fuel filters usually have an arrow on the canister that indicates the direction of fuel flow. Connect the hoses to the new filter and tighten the fittings securely. Start the engine and check carefully for leaks at the filter hose connections.
