Pontiac Phoenix A/C Compressor Parts Questions & Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install A/C Compressor for Buick Skylark,Oldsmobile Omega and Pontiac Phoenix?
A: Before any A/C lines are disconnected anywhere in the system, the vehicle has to be taken to a GM dealer or other qualified automotive air conditioning repair shop for system discharge. On negative battery cable must be disconnected and all electrical connections from the A/C compressor removed. Muffler fitting and hose assembly should be removed from the rear head of the compressor for L4 engine. Adjusting bolts for the compressor and nut should be loosened while pivoting the compressor to loose drivebelt, which can then be removed from the pulley of the compressor. Upper spacer, A/C adjustment bolt as well as lower pivot bolt and lower bracket bolt should all be removed after which one can remove lower rear compressor adjustment nut. After that, remove compressor itself. To install, follow reverse procedure of removal. Once again, when you have securely connected hose and condenser unit back to your car's air compressors, take it down at general motors auto service center or any licensed automobile repairer where system fills with air conditioning refrigerant are done. The upper through bolt and spacer from the brackets on top of the compressor should also be removed along with upper Drive Belt tension adjusting bolt if you have V6 engine. Remove a bolt that attaches your generator lower mounting bracket to this compressor. Your compressor is pushed rearward in its own mounting brackets accompanied by removing a drive belt off its body. The front radiator support brace bolt will be removed thus making enough space towards right fender for it to swing freely. Take out a bolt attaching its manifold on this compressor then remove it out of your vehicle too. In brief, installation is similar to removal but done backwards and once all AC lines have been reconnected including new compressor, you will require taking your car over to GM or other authentic mechanics who can refill up AC gas into this device cooling system.
