Q:
How to remove and install valve lifters,Camshaft Bearing and pushrods in Cadillac ElDorado and Fleetwood? Posted by Customer
A:
For the 4.5L and 4.9L engines, it is important to keep the valve lifters and pushrods in order during removal and installation. Some engines may have both standard size and oversize valve lifters, which can be identified by the "O" marking on the oversize lifters and on the cylinder block. To remove the lifters, the intake manifold and valve covers need to be removed first. If the lifters are coated with varnish, carburetor cleaning solvent can be applied to dissolve the varnish. A special tool can be used to remove the lifters. Before installing new lifters, they need to be primed by submerging them in SAE 10 oil and pushing down on the plunger. The lifters should be coated with Molykote19 or an equivalent lubricant before installation. The intake manifold, rocker arms, and valve covers can then be installed. For the 4.6L engine, the camshaft cover needs to be removed first. The camshafts can then be removed, followed by the valve lifters. The lifters should be stored on their camshaft face to retain residual oil. When installing the lifters, they should be placed back in their original bores. Finally, the camshafts and camshaft cover can be installed. It is recommended to add an additive containing EP lube, such as EOS, to the crankcase oil for break-in when new lifters or a new camshaft are installed.

Q:
How do you determine the extent of cam lobe wear before removing the camshaft for the 1992 Chevrolet C1500? Posted by Customer
A:
To determine cam lobe wear, you should first position the number one piston at TDC on the compression stroke. Then, loosen the rocker arm nuts and pivot the rocker arms sideways. Afterward, mount a dial indicator on the engine and position the plunger against the top of the first pushrod. Zero the dial indicator and slowly turn the crankshaft in the normal direction of rotation until the indicator needle stops and begins to move in the opposite direction. Record this figure and repeat the check for each valve.

Q:
What should you do with the lifters during this process for the 1998 Chevrolet K1500? Posted by Customer
A:
Clean the lifters and check for scuffing, score marks, and uneven wear. If the lifters are worn or damaged, it's advisable to replace them along with the camshaft. For roller lifters, also check the rollers for wear and damage.
