Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the engine cover. For 2014 and earlier 4.3L V6 and 5.0L, 5.7L, and 7.4L V8 engines, disconnect the electrical connector from the Idle Control Valve and remove the Idle Control Valve mounting screws. Remove the Idle Control Valve and the O-ring. Inspect and clean the surfaces of the Idle Control Valve pintle, the seating surface for the Idle Control Valve mounting flange, and the air passage inside the throttle body. If necessary, remove the throttle body for thorough cleaning. If installing a new Idle Control Valve, measure the distance from the tip of the pintle valve to the Idle Control Valve mounting flange and adjust if necessary. Install a new O-ring and lubricate it with clean engine oil. For 4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L V8 engines, disconnect the electrical connector from the Idle Control Valve and remove the Idle Control Valve mounting screws. Remove the Idle Control Valve and the O-ring. Inspect and clean the surfaces of the Idle Control Valve pintle, the seating surface for the Idle Control Valve mounting flange, and the air passage inside the throttle body. If necessary, remove the throttle body for thorough cleaning. If installing a new Idle Control Valve, measure the distance from the tip of the pintle valve to the Idle Control Valve mounting flange and adjust if necessary. Install a new O-ring and lubricate it with clean engine oil.
