  Q: How Do You Troubleshoot and Diagnose Malfunctions in the Body Control Module (BCM),Door Lock and Associated Systems?

  A: Among other things, these models have a Body Control Module (BCM) which controls stuff like door locks, power windows, ignition lock and security system, interior lights, Daytime Running Lights system, Horn, windshield wipers, heating/air conditioning system, and power mirrors. For this system if there is any malfunction the troubleshooting as well as diagnosis should be done by a dealership service department or qualified automotive repair facility. The power door lock system works through switches, actuators and the BCM and can usually be diagnosed and repaired by checking wiring connections and actuators. A signal from the lock switches is sent to the BCM which then sends a signal to the door lock solenoids. Dealer service department should be consulted if troubleshooting steps do not identify the issue. Always check circuit protection first, followed by checking for voltage at the switches and testing switch continuity.
