  Q: How to remove the A/C Compressor?

  A: To remove an inline engine, start by discharging the air conditioning system and disconnecting the battery cable. Thoroughly clean the compressor around the refrigerant line fittings and remove the drivebelt and alternator. Disconnect the electrical connector(s) from the air conditioning compressor and remove the suction and discharge blocks from the compressor. Plug the open fittings and discard the seals. Finally, remove the compressor by taking out the mounting bolts. For V8 engine removal, follow the same steps as the inline engine removal, but also remove the air filter housing, drain the cooling system, and detach the lower radiator hose. Additionally, remove the left front wheel well inner splash shield. The installation process involves pouring the oil from the old compressor into a container and adding the same amount to the new compressor. Follow any directions provided with the new compressor and ensure the oil is compatible with R-134a refrigerant systems. Reassemble the components in reverse order, using new seals lubricated with clean refrigerant oil when installing the line fitting blocks. Reconnect the battery cable and have the system evacuated, recharged, and leak tested.
