To remove the cylinder head, first relieve the system fuel pressure and disconnect the negative battery cable. Drain the engine oil and coolant. Remove the strut tower bar and the air intake duct. Disconnect various electrical harnesses and connectors, including the EGR valve, IAC valve, TP sensor, EVAP canister purge valve, oxygen sensor, CMP sensor, ECT sensor, fuel injector wire harness, ignition coil connectors, ground wires, and wiring harness brackets, clamps, and clips. Disconnect the throttle cable and, if applicable, the TV cable. Disconnect various hoses, including the brake booster hose, vacuum hoses, canister purge hoses, coolant hose, fuel supply hose, return hose, heater hose, and radiator inlet hose. Remove the intake manifold rear support bracket, detach the coolant pipe, and disconnect the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold. Remove the camshaft cover, intake manifold, oil pan, timing chain cover, timing chains, camshafts, and lifters. Remove the coolant outlet pipe and elbow. Loosen the cylinder head bolts in a specific sequence and remove the cylinder head assembly. To install the cylinder head, clean the block and head, install knock pins, and place a new gasket. Apply engine oil to the cylinder head bolts and hand tighten them. Gradually and evenly tighten the bolts in a criss-cross fashion. Install the coolant outlet elbow and pipe, camshafts and lifters, timing chains, timing chain cover, oil pan, intake manifold, and camshaft cover. Install the exhaust manifold and support bracket, and reattach the exhaust pipe. Reattach the coolant pipe, intake manifold rear support bracket, and various hoses. Reconnect the TV cable and throttle cable. Reconnect various electrical harnesses and connectors. Install the air intake duct and strut tower bar. Refill the engine with oil and coolant. Reconnect the negative battery cable. Start the engine, readjust the ignition timing if necessary, and check for leaks and proper operation.
