About Buick Electra

Buick Electra is a full-size luxury car manufactured and marketed by the American automobile manufacturer General Motors' upscale brand Buick from 1959 to 1990. The first Buick Electra was introduced in 1959 to replace the Buick Roadmaster and Buick Super. It was offered in varying body styles including coupe, convertible, sedan and station wagon. But after being produced for six generations through thirty years, Buick Electra was eventually replaced by the Buick Park Avenue for the 1991 model year.
The fifth-generation Buick Electra was produced from 1977 to 1984 as a downsized C-body car. It came with base 225 and Limited trim levels as well as a top-line Park Avenue option package. Sedan and coupe are its main body styles. During this generation, Buick Electra got several engine options such as 4.1 L V6, 5.0 L, 5.7 L and 6.6 L V8 engines and engines sent power through either a 3-speed or a 4-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels. The final generation started in 1985 with a redesigned front-drive Electra but sales began in April 1984. Trim levels including 300/380/430 (based on engine displacement), Park Avenue, performance-oriented T-Type, and Limited were available. Buick Electra was powered by a 3.0 L V6 engine rated at 110 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque, 3.8 L and 4.3 L V6 engines. But all engines were mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission.

Buick Electra Common Problems & Maintenance Tips

As a full-size luxury car like Buick Electra, it is good enough for drivers who need a vehicle for daily commuting or family use. However, as accumulation of mileage, auto parts in it are inevitable to wear and tear and these common problems will appear along:
Frist, engine failure. Could be regarded as the most horrible issue that a vehicle could meet. Buick Electra drivers have also encountered this issue when the vehicle reached at about 140,000 miles. And this issue could be attributed to failed engine parts or failed cooling system. According to some Buick Electra drivers, at first, this issue would manifest as noises coming from engine, if left unattended, sounds get louder and engine starts to run roughly, misfire or stall. During this process, if engine overheats a lot due to leaking coolant, it will have performance and starting issues. Thus, if your Electra is difficult to start and consumes more fuel than before, you had better get the spark plug, oil filter, air filter, cylinder head gasket and intake manifold gasket inspected thoroughly.
Second, suspension failure. This issue is not familiar to drivers as engine issue is, and in fact, many drivers even have misunderstandings about it, including Buick Electra drivers. Some even said that it is not a big deal but just causes some vibration while driving, though vibration does cause discomfort but still not a big deal. But apart from vibration, you need to pay more attention to the sounds from the beneath the vehicle, which is often the culprit of uneven tire wear and tilting vehicle. And vibration and loose steering wheel will let you lose control of your Buick Electra. Thus, never overlook the Electra wheel bearing, shock absorber, sway bar bushing and sway bar kit.
For a qualified and responsible Buick Electra owners, routine maintenance is the necessary job. Since Buick Electra is comprised of so many different kinds of auto parts, knowing what parts need routine maintenance could save a lot of energy and time. Electrical parts are often struck by wearing first due to frequency of usage. Thus, power window switch and seat switch need to be maintained on a regular basis.
