About Chevrolet Citation

Chevrolet Citation is a compact vehicle manufactured by General Motors' brand Chevrolet from 1980 to 1985. The first Chevrolet Citation was introduced in April 1979 for the 1980 model year to replace the Chevrolet Nova. Though it had only been produced for about five years, it had received recognition from Motor Trend magazine as its Car of the Year for 1980. And Chevrolet Citation's famous trim X-11 had won SSB National Championships in 1982 and 1984.
As soon as Chevrolet Citation was launched, it has become one of the most successful vehicle of General Motors and the best-selling vehicle in United States in 1980. It was offered with two trim levels when it was first released: Standard and a sporty X-11. As a 2-door notchback, 3-door hatchback and 5-door hatchback, Chevrolet Citation received powers from a 2.5 L Iron Duke inline 4-cylinder engine, 2.8 L LE2 V6 engine, 2.8 L LH7 HO V6 engine and a 2.8 L LB6 MPFI V6 engine mated to a 3-speed TH-125 automatic transmission and a 4-speed manual transmission. When the last Chevrolet Citation rolled off the assembly line on June 21, 1985, it was replaced by the Chevrolet Beretta coupe and Chevrolet Corsica sedan/hatchback in 1987.

First, car loses power and misfires. This is the top complaint coming from the real Chevrolet Citation owners. According to their description, as time passes by, engine performance suffered a lot and displayed symptoms such as stalling, misfiring or stuck in no start condition. And if your Chevrolet Citation's Check Engine Light comes on, you are supposed to have a check at the oil filter, spark plug, air filter and engine control module.
Second, transmission failure. This is also a common problem in Chevrolet Citation. In general, drivers could hear a rattling sound when driving. What's more, it would be harder to shift gears or could not change gears at all. Sometimes, you could even smell burning odor or smoke. Leaking fluids and Warning Light are also the signs. Once signs appear, you should perform a thorough inspection on the transmission assembly, automatic transmission filter and shift cable.
