GMC S15 is a compact pickup truck manufactured by General Motors' GMC division from 1982 to 2005 in North American market. The first GMC S15 was introduced in 1982 though it was later renamed as GMC Sonoma. It also had a high-performance version called as GMC Syclone released in 1991. An SUV version named as GMC S-15 Jimmy was also available. GMC S15 undertook its name only for one generation. But in fact, it had been produced through three generations.
The GMC S15 used its name from 1982 to 1991. It belongs to the prominent S-Series. When GMC S15 was first introduced, it was powered by a 1.9 L LR1 inline 4-cylinder gasoline engine and an optional 2.8 L GM V6 engine. Extended and regular cab style options were also available. Then when it became GMC Sonoma, it had Sonoma GT package as well as more engine options ranging from 2.5 L inline 4-cylinder gasoline engine to 4.3 L V6 engine mated to 3-speed, 4-speed and 5-speed manual transmissions as well as 4-speed automatic transmissions. Then the second generation GMC S15 was the GMC Sonoma (1992-2004). It then only had two engine options: 2.2 L inline 4-cylinder engine and 4.3 L V6 engine. Engines were mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission and 5-speed manual transmissions.
