1991 Chevrolet Metro Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear shock absorber on 1991 Chevrolet Metro?
A: To replace the rear strut on a vehicle, start by raising and securely supporting the rear of the vehicle. Then, place a jack under the rear control arm. Next, remove the nuts retaining the upper part of the strut to the strut tower. Compress the strut and remove the pinch bolt from the knuckle. Detach the strut from the knuckle by pulling up on the lower portion of the strut. If necessary, use a chisel to spread open the slit of the knuckle. During strut removal, be cautious not to lower the jack more than necessary to prevent the coil spring from coming out or damaging the brake hose. To install the new strut, follow the reverse steps of removal and ensure that the strut locating tab aligns properly with the rear knuckle.
