2008 Cadillac CTS Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: Should engine mounts be replaced immediately if they are broken or deteriorated to prevent damage to driveline components in 2.8L,3.0L,3.6L V6 engine on 2008 Cadillac CTS?
A: Engine mounts are virtually maintenance free other than when they are damaged or worn, the should be replaced as they can cause damage to the driveline components. During the check, the engine should be lifted slightly so that the weight will be taken off the mounts. Lift the car and securely jack up the vehicle and set it on jack stands, Set the hydraulic jack under the engine oil pan and place a large piece of wood between the jack head and the oil pan then slowly lift the engine to take off some of the stress off the mounts off the jack do not rely on the jack to hold all the weight of the engine. The mounts may be swollen and later they harden or break into two pieces, leaving the metal plates, it is said that the rubber maybe divided vertically. Shake the mount plates and the engine or subframe by using a large screwdriver or pry bar; if there is some amount of shake, then do not apprehend the mounts as bad because broken engine mounts should not let the engine move when shaken or under some load. Pump out the refrigerant of the air conditioning at a dealer service department or air conditioning shop, then unplug the cable from the negative terminal on the battery. Loosen the following; shock tower crossbrace and air conditioning lines to the compressor in order to access the mount top nut. Loated below the vehicle, loosen the engine mount to front suspension subframe nut and then the engine mount to engine bracket nut. It is recommended to engage the lifting point labelled as an 'engine holding fixture' or an 'engine hoist' to lift from the top of the engine to prevent the damage of the oil pick-up located at the oil pan when using a jack. Lift the engine a little more until the mount can be pulled with hands, then, remove the bolts that secure the bracket to the engine block and take out the bracket, and engine mount, out of the vehicle, disconnecting the mount from the bracket. The process of installation is the exact opposite of removal, to the extent that it involves the tightening of fasteners to the correct torque.
