A: To remove and install brake pads, start by siphoning off brake fluid, raise the vehicle, remove the wheels, and suspend the caliper after unscrewing the caliper mounting bolts. Bend the ears of the outboard pad to release it, then use a C-clamp to push the caliper piston into the bore, allowing removal of the inner pad. Remove the pad support spring clip, bolt ear sleeves, and rubber bushings. Replace worn brake pads if they're within 1/32 inch of rivet heads or meet state inspection regulations. Check for leakage and the piston dust boot inside the caliper, lubricate new sleeves and bushings, and install them. Position the outboard shoe over the caliper ears and engage the tab at the bottom. Place the inboard shoe retaining spring onto the shoe and snap it into the piston. Position the caliper over the brake disc, align holes, and tighten the mounting bracket bolts. Ensure sufficient brake fluid in the master cylinder, pump the pedal, and clinch upper ears of outer shoes. Lower the vehicle, add fluid, test the brake pedal, and bleed the brakes if needed. Inspect pads through the caliper top opening or look for wear sensors on newer models. Ensure proper thickness of linings as specified in Brake Specifications chart or state regulations.
