The air filter is located inside a housing on the left side of the engine compartment. To remove it, detach the fasteners securing the two halves of the housing, separate the cover halves, and take out the air filter element. Some models may have side engine covers that need to be unclipped for access. Inspect the outer surface of the filter; if dirty, replace it, but if only moderately dusty, it can be cleaned with compressed air from the back to the front. Since it is a pleated paper type filter, it cannot be washed or oiled, and if it cannot be cleaned satisfactorily, it should be discarded. While the cover is off, avoid dropping anything into the housing, and never drive the vehicle without the air filter, as this could lead to excessive engine wear or even a fire. After cleaning, wipe out the inside of the housing, then place the new filter in, ensuring it seats properly. Finally, secure the top half of the housing with the clamps.
