  A: To perform an operating check on the brake system, start by depressing the brake pedal multiple times with the engine off to ensure there is no change in the pedal reserve distance. Then, depress the pedal and start the engine, noting if the pedal goes down slightly, indicating normal operation. For an airtightness check, start the engine and turn it off after a minute or two. If removal of the power unit is necessary, it is recommended to use special tools and have a new or factory-rebuilt unit installed. To remove the unit, start by removing the driver's side insulator panel and disconnecting the electrical connector to the Brake Pedal Position (BPP) sensor. Remove the booster pushrod retaining clip or nut, depending on the model year, and disconnect the pushrod from the brake pedal. Remove any additional components, such as the cross brace or clutch master cylinder, if applicable. Remove the coolant expansion tank and the master cylinder from the booster. Install a special tool or equivalent to the brake booster studs and release the booster from the mounting flange by depressing the locking tab and rotating the booster counterclockwise.
