First step for engines produced after 2000: empty oil from engine and remove oil filter. Unscrew the crossover pipe from your right front exhaust to get to the oil pan. You can find these bolts by moving under the engine/transaxle and lifting up the car, supported by two jackstands. First lift the vehicle high enough to set it on jackstands. Then take off the vehicle's oil level sensor before starting work. Carefully pry the oil pan from the engine block, using the right placement on the mounting bolts before removing them. Remove the oil pump strainer. Clean the block and oil pan by using a scraper to take off old sealant, then clean the block-to-oil pan contact points with acetone or thinner. Before putting the engine block together, wash the bolt thread holes until they look clean, and make sure both surfaces on the oil pan and block are plain, straight, and even. Check the oil pump pick-up/strainer assembly for cracks and clogged areas. Rinse it if you take it apart and put on a fresh gasket. Once installed, tighten all fasteners to their correct torque. Replace the oil pan gasket, wiping off contaminants from the groove and oil pan, put the oil pan on the engine block, screw in first the inner bolts, then move to the outer ones, tighten them by two or three steps until they reach the proper torque setting. Finish the work by doing the opposite of what you did to take everything apart. Then add fresh oil and put in a new filter. After all bolts are in, start up the engine to see whether it's leaking oil or showing normal pressure.
