Cadillac DTS Sway Bar Kit Parts Questions & Answers

  • Q: How do you remove the front stabilizer bar?
A: To remove the sway bar kit, start by loosening the lug nuts on both front wheels and raising the front of the vehicle. Support it securely on jackstands and apply the parking brake. Remove the front wheels. Then, detach the sway bar kit links from the struts or Control Arms, taking note of how the link bushings, spacers, and washers are arranged if applicable. Remove the sway bar kit bracket bolts. If working on a 2000 and later DeVille or a Seville, detach the right-side tie-rod end from the Steering Knuckle. If working on a 1999 DeVille, detach the exhaust pipe from the rear exhaust manifold. Turn the right-side steering knuckle to the left and slide the kit over it, pulling down until the kit clears the frame. Inspect the bushings for wear and damage, replacing them if necessary. To install the sway bar kit, maneuver it into position and loosely install the bushings and clamps. Center the kit in the vehicle and connect it to the links, tightening the fasteners to the specified torque. Finally, reverse the removal steps by installing the wheels, lowering the vehicle, and tightening the lug nuts to the specified torque.
  • Q: How do you remove the rear stabilizer bar on Cadillac DeVille and DTS?
A: To remove the sway bar kit on a vehicle, start by loosening the rear wheel lug nuts and blocking the front wheels. Then, raise the rear of the vehicle and secure it on jackstands. Remove the rear wheels and detach the sway bar kit links from the Control Arms if working on a 1999 DeVille, or detach the sway bar kit link bolt/bushing assembly from each control arm if working on a Seville or a 2000 or later DeVille or DTS. Take note of how the bushings and washers are arranged. Next, remove the sway bar kit clamp bolts and remove the sway bar kit. If replacing the sway bar kit or the bracket bushings, bend the end of the clamp open and remove the bushings, making sure to note the position of the slits. To install, follow the reverse of the removal steps and tighten the fasteners to the specified torque. Finally, tighten the wheel lug nuts to the torque specifications.
