The instrument cluster on some models is an Electric-Static Discharge (ESD) sensitive electronic device, meaning a static electricity discharge from your body could possibly damage internal electrical components; avoid touching the electrical terminals unless absolutely necessary. Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery prior to performing any operations. On models equipped with an anti-theft audio system, disable the anti-theft feature before disconnecting the battery or disrupting power to the stereo. For 1992 and earlier models, remove the instrument panel lower and upper trim panel mounting screws, pull the upper trim panel away from the dashboard, disconnect the electrical connectors, and remove it from the vehicle. For 1993 and later models, remove the driver's side knee bolster. If applicable, disconnect the gear position indicator cable from the steering column and, if equipped, place the tilt steering column in the lowest position. Apply the parking brake and block the wheels, then turn the ignition key ON and place the gear selector in "1" or "L" as applicable; on models equipped with brake-transmission interlock, power must be restored to accomplish this operation. After positioning the transmission gear selector, disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. For 1993 to 1995 models, remove the air conditioner and heater controls from the instrument panel, then remove the instrument trim panel mounting screws, pull it away from the dashboard, disconnect the electrical connectors, and remove it from the vehicle. For 1996 and later models, using a screwdriver, carefully pry the instrument cluster trim plate from the dashboard, disconnect the electrical connectors, and remove it from the vehicle; the instrument trim panel on these models uses self-locking fasteners, so carefully pry it away with a screwdriver and pull it off by hand. Remove the four instrument cluster retaining screws, pull it away from the dashboard just enough to disconnect the electrical connectors and speedometer cable if applicable, then remove it from the vehicle. Installation is the reverse of removal.
