If the vehicle is equipped with a Delco Loe II or Theftlock audio system, ensure you have the correct activation code before disconnecting the battery. Park the vehicle with the wheels pointing straight ahead and disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. For airbag-equipped models, also disconnect the positive terminal and wait two minutes before proceeding. On models without an airbag, the horn pad is attached to the steering wheel with various combinations of clips or screws. For airbag-equipped models, use a number 30 Torx bit to remove the screws securing the airbag module to the steering wheel, and a Tone bit for screws located behind the steering wheel. Carefully lift the airbag module away from the steering wheel and disconnect the yellow airbag electrical connector, which requires removing a plastic clip before separation. Remove the module, then take off the steering wheel nut retainer (if equipped) and the steering wheel nut using a deep socket. Mark the relationship of the steering wheel to the shaft, then install a steering wheel puller and turn the center bolt until the wheel is free. Remove the puller and disconnect the horn and ground connector before taking off the steering wheel. Installation is the reverse of removal; for airbag-equipped models, ensure the SIR coil is centered before installing the steering wheel. Connect the airbag connector to the back of the airbag module with the plastic locking device in place, and tighten the steering wheel nut and airbag screws to the specified torque. Follow the procedure to enable the airbag system.
