Chevrolet Blazer Brake Shoe Parts Questions & Answers

  • Q: How to Inspect and Adjust Brake shoe on Chevrolet Blazer,S10,GMC Jimmy and Sonoma?
A: To begin, loosen the wheel lug nuts and raise the rear of the vehicle, securely supporting it on jackstands. Block the front wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling. Remove the rear wheels and then the brake drum. If the drum is stuck due to corrosion, apply penetrating oil and tap around the studs and flange to break it loose. If the drum is locked onto the shoes, use a screwdriver to push the actuator lever off the star adjuster and back off the adjuster wheel. Clean the brake assembly with brake system cleaner. Clean and inspect the brake drum for any damage or wear. Repeat these steps for the other rear brake assembly. Install the brake drums and adjust the shoes so they slightly drag on the drums. Install the rear wheels, lower the vehicle, and tighten the lug nuts. Check the brake pedal position and adjust further if necessary. Finally, test the brakes for proper operation before driving in traffic.
