Before the valve covers can be removed the
Camshafts must be taken off because in order to get to the rocker arms, and the lash adjuster socket on the rocker arm, they are needed. Identify every rocker arms so that through correct orientation they will be fitted back correctly then raise every rocker arm from the engine. With the rocker arms out of the way, the hydraulic lash adjusters can now be lifted of the
Cylinder Head and for components that are being reused, they should be reinstalled in the correct positions. To carry out this process, a rocker arm should be closely examined on each for signs of wear, cracks, and other kinds of damage at the contact zone with the valve stems and to check the rollers for binding and roughness; if the rocker arm has worn or damaged bearings, the rocker arm must be replaced. Also, check for any sign of cracks or damage of the rocker arm pivot support pedestal. Please recall that these engines do not require valve adjustments and therefore if there is wear or damage in the valve train, the chances are high that it will cause high valve clearance and produce noises during operation. Make sure the passage for the oil for each hydraulic lash adjuster is auger and not hampered by any sharp edge. For the installation, smear camshaft assembly lube on the pivot pockets, roller and the part of slot that pushes onto the valve of the rocker arm. Pour clean engine oil in the bores where the hydraulic lash adjusters go, place the rocker arms in the lash adjusters, then put the lash adjusters into the cylinder head. The procedure for installation is the exact reverse of the removal, and before starting the engine, replace the oil and the oil filter.
