Remove the rocker arm and shaft assembly from the
Cylinder Head and place it on wood blocks on a clean surface. Pry out the nylon rocker arm retainers using slip-joint pliers, then remove the rocker arms, clean them in a suitable solution, and inspect for wear. Take out the retainer pieces from inside the rocker arm shaft. When reassembling, lubricate all parts with engine oil and assemble them on the rocker arm shaft, ensuring they are positioned in the proper sequence, as they are stamped right (R) or left (L) for correct placement. Center each rocker arm on the ¾ inch hole in the shaft and install new nylon rocker arm retainers in the holes using a ½ inch drift. Finally, place the rocker arm assembly on the cylinder head, re-install the bolts attaching the assembly, and tighten the bolts in increments to the specified torque.
