To release the latch one has to remove the grille and for models which were produced later-the vertical latch support bar. After that, unscrew the bolts keeping the latch assembly in place and take out the latch assembly disconnected the cable end from the latch pulling off the casing on the bracket and then unlatching the end of the cable for the latch lever. Remove the guide wire from it and connect it to the new cable and than pull the wire back through the firewall till the cable is on the latch assembly so that the grommet is fully inserted in the hole in the firewall from the two sides. Lastly, by applying slight pressure from the interior of the car, the grommet will be correctly positioned and to finish the procedure, the operations mentioned under the reversed procedures should be followed.
