How to check and replace a water pump on Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon?

Water pump failure can lead to overheating and there are several ways to check the operation of the water pump. Additionally, the effectiveness of the water pump can be checked by removing it for examination, as the impeller fins may corrode away. The drive belt and coolant hoses connected to the pump must be disconnected. The water pump can be unbolted, and, tapped with a soft-face hammer to break the gasket seal. The sealing surfaces of the water pump and block should be cleaned of all gasket material. To install the water pump, a thin layer of RTV sealant should be applied to the new gasket, and the gasket should be installed on the water pump.
