How to disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery and remove the steering column covers on Chevrolet Equinox?

Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the screws from the bottom of the lower cover. The steering column cover screws are accessed from the bottom. Pry the upper cover up until it unclips from the lower cover(s). Separate the steering column covers. On 2009 and earlier models, remove the small trim from around the ignition lock. Pull or pry the small trim cover from the ignition lock. On 2010 and later models, telescope the steering column to its most extended position, then remove the forward facing mounting screws. Turn the steering wheel to gain access to the screws. Remove the covers. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
