Chevrolet HHR Throttle Body

In the Chevrolet HHR automobiles, Booster is used as a Throttle Body which is responsible for the control of the air that is admitted to the vehicle's engine in proportion to the driver's command of the accelerator pedal. Located between the air filter box and the intake manifold, throttle body has a butterfly valve that controls the rate of the air intake. In fuel injected car engines, the throttle body is linked to the car's accelerator pedal either mechanically or electrically and the sensors relay data regarding the optimal way of fuel supply to the injectors to the computer. The throttle systems can also be either mechanical or electrical or a combination of the two with advanced systems such as the "drive-by-wire" improving the throttle system together with features such the safety features. Whereas carburetors are a thing of the past with fuel injection now being the order of the day, some high performance cars may have multiple or individual throttle bodies.

Chevrolet HHR Throttle Body Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to inspect and clean the throttle body on Chevrolet HHR?
A: Before continuing, make sure new models from 2005 and later move their throttle smoothly. After removing the air intake pipe, allow the throttle plate to open by hand. Also check the throttle channel within the throttle body for debris. If noticeable build-up, clean it using cleaning solutions compatible with oxygen sensors and catalytic converters. Unplug the black electrical wire connected to the ground battery terminal, remove the air intake tube both leading to the resonator and the intake hose from the throttle body, while also taking off the engine cover for 2.2L or 2.4L models. Remove the cable connecting to throttle body and vacuum hoses, as well as unhooking the EVAP canister outlets on 2.0L vehicles. Before reinstalling the throttle body, take off all bolts holding it in place. Inspect the O-ring under the throttle body and decide whether to keep the old one if it looks good, replacing it if the vehicle is aging or the O-ring is damaged. Clean the throttle body if necessary. Reinstall the throttle body by turning bolts in the opposite order it was removed. Repeat this process and torque the bolts to factory standards. Disconnecting the battery lets the car's main computer start to learn how it ran before. Turn the engine to check that the throttle body functions fine and there's no room for air to escape.
