Secondary Air Injection is only used on 2014 and earlier 2.5L engines. The secondary air pump and valve are mounted on the rear of the engine block, while the secondary air injection pipe is located at the front of the engine, just above the exhaust manifold. The secondary air injection valve is mounted on the front of the engine on the cylinder head. To begin, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the rear transaxle mount. Disconnect the secondary air injection pump feed tube by removing the feed tube bracket bolt and disconnecting the plastic collar at the pump by squeezing and pulling away from it. Next, disconnect the secondary air injection pump inlet hose by squeezing and pulling away from the pump. Remove the pump mounting bolts and disconnect the pump electrical connector before removing the secondary air injection pump. Installation is the reverse of removal. For the check valve, remove the engine cover and disconnect the secondary air injection pump feed tube by disconnecting the plastic collar at the valve. Remove the check valve mounting bolts and disconnect the valve electrical connector. Remove the secondary air injection check valve and discard the gasket, then install a new gasket and tighten the bolts to the specified torque.
