- Q: How to check the Alternator and Igniter on Chevrolet Tracker?A: For 1986-1989 Samurai and 1989-1991 Sidekick/Tracker, check the signal rotor and test the alternator and igniter with a voltmeter. Replace faulty parts. For 1990+ Samurai and 1992+ Sidekick/Tracker, the ignition is computer-controlled with a Hall-effect device or CMP sensor. To test the igniter on 1991-1995 models, check continuity using an ohmmeter after disconnecting the connector. For 1996-1998, disconnect from the distributor to test. On 1999+ models, consult a dealer for coil/igniter unit tests.
