GMC Canyon Wheel Cylinder Parts Questions & Answers

  • Q: How do you remove the Wheel Cylinder on Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon?
A: To remove the wheel cylinder, start by raising the rear of the vehicle and supporting it securely on jackstands, while also blocking the front wheels to prevent rolling. Then, remove the Brake Shoe assembly and clean any dirt or foreign material from around the wheel cylinder. Next, disconnect the Brake Line using a flare-nut wrench, being careful not to pull it away from the wheel cylinder. After that, remove the wheel cylinder mounting bolts and detach the cylinder from the brake backing plate. Remember to immediately plug the brake line to prevent fluid loss and contamination. For installation, place the wheel cylinder in position and install the bolts fingertight. Connect the brake line to the cylinder, ensuring not to cross-thread the fitting. Tighten the wheel cylinder bolts to the specified torque. Then, tighten the brake line fitting and proceed to install the brake shoes and drum. Afterward, bleed the brakes, install the wheel and lug nuts, and lower the vehicle to the ground. Finally, tighten the lug nuts to the specified torque and thoroughly check the operation of the brakes before driving the vehicle.
