To remove the fuel tank from a vehicle, it is recommended to siphon out any remaining fuel unless the tank is completely empty. Additionally, the fuel system pressure should be relieved and the cable should be detached from the negative terminal of the battery. The vehicle should be raised and securely supported on jack stands, and the fuel tank shield should be removed from the chassis. The fuel inlet line, vapor lines, fuel feed line, return lines, and vapor return line should all be disconnected from the fuel tank and
Fuel Pump. The vapor lines should also be disconnected from the fuel tank rollover valve. The fuel tank should be supported with a floor jack, and both fuel tank retaining straps should be disconnected. The tank can then be lowered enough to disconnect the wires and ground strap from the fuel pump/fuel level sending unit, and finally, the tank can be completely removed from the vehicle. To install the fuel tank, the process is simply reversed.
