  Q: How to inspect and replace windshield and rear wiper blade assemblies?

  A: Periodic inspections should be performed on the windshield and rear wiper and blade assemblies to check for damage, loose parts, or cracked or worn blade elements. The wiper blades must be regularly cleaned using a mild detergent solution because road film may build up on them and affect their efficiency. The bolts, nuts, and fasteners can get loose as a result of the wiping mechanism activity that implies checking and tightening them when necessary in line with the inspection of wiper blades. When inserts (also known as wiper blade elements) are cracked, worn out or warped, they should be substituted. Pushing on the blade while depressing the release lever will allow you to remove a windshield wiper. The rubber part of the blade is removed from it once it has been taken off of the vehicle. With one hand grasp securely the end of wiper bridge; with another hand grasp element. Slide element out by separating end from claw at bridge end; then slide element out. Check length, design, etc., against old unit for new element. Place new element into notch in claw with notched end lastly; then hook claw onto notches again. Reinstall blade assembly on arm; wet windshield then test that it works correctly. To take off the rear wiper, remove its nut and detach arm assembly. Reach out an end of element from bridge claw and slide to let out it out; then slide element side wise to let it free from its position within claw at other end of bridge. The reverse process is involved during installation.
