Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal, ensuring to disable the anti-theft feature on models equipped with a Delco Loe II audio system before doing so. Remove the dash pad by taking out the four retaining screws in the defroster ducts and six screws underneath the lip of the dash pad. Next, take out the left-hand radio speaker and disconnect the electrical connector. Using a Torx screwdriver of the appropriate size, remove the screws holding the instrument cluster outer bezel and take off the bezel. Remove the cluster panel retaining screws and pull the cluster panel out just enough to reach behind it. Locate the speedometer cable where it joins the speedometer case, hold the cable, pinch the cable release, and separate the cable from the speedometer. Remove the screws retaining the instrument cluster panel plastic lens, then from the rear of the cluster panel, take out the speedometer retaining screws and copper retaining clip, pull the speedometer out of the panel, disconnect the VSS electrical connector with a screwdriver, and remove the speedometer. For installation, reverse the removal procedure, ensuring that when reattaching the speedometer cable connector to the speedometer case, the cluster panel is positioned so that the connector is visible, holding it in place with one hand while feeding the cluster panel into the connector with the other until it snaps into place.
