But I warned my reader, if the engine has been removed from the car, then he/she can disregard the following steps which are not relevant. First, release tension of the drive belts, if needed this by slackening the generator, the power steering pump and the air-conditioning compressor. Following, you need to undo the inner fender splash shield in order to gain some space for the work. Next, disconnect the drive belts with paying attention to the position of each of them. Then, it is followed by removal of the accessory drive pulley from the harmonic balancer and finally by the removal of the centre harmonic balancer retaining bolt. Place an extended special harmonic balancer remover on to the balancer then draw it clear of the
Crankshaft; do not drop the balancer when it is free; do not use a gear puller to remove the outer portion of the balancer from the inner hub; the only acceptable tool is a puller that bolts to the inner hub of the balancer. When fitting the harmonic balancer it is recommended that you apply engine oil to the front cover seal area of the balancer. Put the balancer over the key on the crankshaft with the key passage of the balancer parallel to the key. As with the harmonic balancer installer, pull the balancer over the crankshaft and make sure that the pull is spread evenly around the inner hub. Take out the installation tool and put in the harmonic balancer center retaining bolt and tighten the bolt as per the set torque. Last of all, and as described and illustrated in the removal section, remove the remainder of the components, in reverse order, and fine-tune tightness of the other drive belts.
