Pontiac Vibe Camshaft Position Sensor Parts Questions & Answers

  • Q: What is the purpose of the Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor?
A: It is the Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor that gives a signal for sequential fuel injection of each cylinder. The camshaft sensor is mounted on the cylinder head close to the intake runner for cylinder no. 4. A diagnostic trouble code will be registered if there is a fault in the camshaft sensor circuit. Ensure that the ignition key is in the OFF position. Take off the engine cover. Disconnect the harness connector, remove mounting bolt, and then take out camshaft sensor from cylinder head. Installation is opposite to removal procedures. Get a new O-ring that has been lightly coated with engine oil.
