    Q:
How to remove, install, and calibrate the parking brake cables on Chevrolet Malibu? Posted by Customer
    A:
A few of the features of a parking brake module of 2013 models are apply and release actuators, temperature sensor and computer logic circuits for operating parameters. Firstly, apply the front wheels parking brakes and also disconnect the parking brake cable adjuster and switch off the respective ignition button. Removing the left rear wheel requires that the left rear wheel lug nuts be loosened, the rear of the vehicle be raised and supported on jackstands. Next, remove the left rear inner fender liner, and push on the parking brake cable, thereafter, tightening its nut, and pulled off from the module. Disconnect the wiring harness retainer clips, if needed and disconnect the electrical connection of the module. Subsequently three mounting nuts are to be undone so as to pull out the parking brake portion and installation process goes in the reverse of that. As for parking brake cables, once again carry out the actions to block the front wheels as well as the electronic parking brake cable adjuster, turn the left rear wheel lug nuts counterclockwise to some extent, lift the vehicle and then pop off the left rear wheel. Lost the rear inner fender liners, parking brake module cable nut, cable retainer from caliper and brake hose brackets and then lost the parking brake module cable. Do the same for the other side brake caliper and take off the brake cable from the hooks below the car: The installation is done inversely. To calibrate the parking brake, get the drive wheels immobilized, insert the ignition switch to the 'On' position without starting the vehicle, apply pressure on the brake pedal when the transmission is in Park and then using the EPB switch, pull it up and then release momentarily. Depress and then release the EPB switch so as to achieve about 4-5 cycle in order to set the parking brake. 2016 and later models do come with a few tips the first one is to be careful when or if the Electronic Parking Brake switch is engaged while removing the rear caliper as this leads to damaging of the caliper. There are several components that make up the EPB system; they are, the warning light, switch, electronic controller and two bidirectional motors that are fitted in the rear calipers. The rear caliper piston can be retracted by loosening the rear wheel lug nuts, elevating the car and the wheels being taken off. Depress the parking brake and pull the parking brake actuator out; rotate the caliper piston in the anti-clockwise direction if you want to do some repairs. Turn the caliper piston back into its original position with the actuator shaft in line with the piston and replace the actuator retaining bolts. After lowering the vehicle body and reconnecting the battery, operate the EPB switch at least 4 times, in order to adjust the distance between the brake pad and brake drum. If there is a code that shows a false problem with the parking brake after the repairs have been done, it is advisable to get it scanned, confirmed and reset. To remove or install the parking brake actuator, unplug the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, unscrew two bolts that locate the parking brake actuator to the brake caliper and while doing this, the O-ring is also removed, and the actuator is pulled from the caliper. It is necessary to remove the O-ring and reinstall a new one to minimize the effects of dirt and moisture; if it is necessary to replace the actuator, first, loosen the electrical connector and then fasten the actuator in the reversed manner.

    Q:
How Should You Remove and Replace the Parking Brake Cables on Chevrolet Malibu? Posted by Customer
    A:
Indeed to actually release the lever operated parking brake one has to first strip the car right down; and his entails the following, The first step is to take out the center console, this should be followed by the disconnection of the electrical connection for the parking brake lever indicator. Pull the parking brake adjuster rod to the rear to release tension in the parking brake cables and then detach the cables from the equalizer bar. Take out the four nuts connecting the lever with the vehicle and take out the lever, and the process of putting the lever back is the same as the above mentioned process. For the cables, same as above, have to remove the center console and move the carpeting aside to see the parking brake cables. Do it once more: release tension on the cables, unlink them from the equalizer bar, and free the cable grommets and brackets. Lift the car on hydraulic jacks and place on stands, remove them and trace the cable and loosen the cable clip at the rear caliper and slide the cable through the body part. Installation is done in the opposite sequence. In the case of the pedal operated parking braked fully release the parking brake cable and lift the vehicle using the jack stands. Identify the cabling at the front and rear of the vehicle bulkhead on the driver side, using your fingers pull down to give you the required amount of play then disconnect the cabling. Albeit in details: Lower the vehicle, then pry the driver's side door sill and kick panel trim out of its place, then pry off the carpeting to reveal the parking brake cable grommet. Remove the parking brake light switch electrical connector, then evalute seven months, remove the bolt and two nuts that secures the parking brake pedal assembly to the dash, the guide the cable out as you remove the brake pedal and the installation is reverse. Upon installation, take some effort engagement of the parking brake so as to self-adjust the cable tension. For the cables, lift the car once more, disconnect the front from the rear beneath the driver compartment and follow it along the car's contour removing any clamps and brackets you come across. Take off the parking cable guide bolt on the underside and free the parking cable from the rear caliper; do the same for the opposite side. The process of installation is the reverse, then applying, and releasing the parking brake several times to correct the cable tension.
