Q:
How to remove and install an ignition switch and lock cylinder? Posted by Customer
A:
Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery.Remove the upper and lower steering column covers.Disconnect the park lock cable from the lock cylinder housing. Ignition Lock CylinderInsert the ignition key into the lock cylinder and turn it to the ACC position.Insert a pick or other small tool into the hole in the back of the lock cylinder housing and push it in to depress the release button. Pull the lock cylinder out of the housing. To install the lock cylinder, make sure the ignition switch is still in the ACC position. If it isn't, rotate it to the ACC position with a screwdriver or needle-nose pliers. The lock cylinder won't fit all the way into the bore if the switch is in any other position.Insert the lock cylinder into the housing, making sure it engages with the switch and clicks into place.Verify that the ignition switch operates correctly in the Off, ACC, Run, and Start positions. Housing and ignition switch RemovalRemove the steering wheel.Remove both multi-function switches. The wiring doesn't have to be disconnected.Detach the electrical connectors from the ignition switch.Remove the two ignition switch/key lock housing screws. Insert the key and turn it to the ACC position.Slide the entire assembly off of the steering column.Remove the ignition switch mounting screws and remove the ignition switch from the housing. InstallationTurn the ignition switch to ACC, then place it into the housing. Tighten the ignition switch screws securely.Put the lock cylinder housing onto the steering column and mate it to the multi-function lever bracket, then install the bolts. Make sure the lock tab on the lock cylinder housing engages with its slot in the steering column, then tighten the bolts securely.Tighten the lower mounting bolt, then the upper mounting bolt, but only until they are seated firmly. Finally, tighten the lower bolt, followed by the upper bolt, to the specific torque. The remainder of the installation procedure is the reverse of removal.
