- A:To remove the tie-rod end, start by loosening the front wheel lug nuts and raising the front of the vehicle with jackstands. Remove the front wheel and then hold the tie-rod with locking pliers or a wrench. Loosen the jam nut to mark the position of the tie-rod end. Next, loosen the tie-rod end-to-steering knuckle nut slightly and disconnect the tie-rod end from the steering knuckle arm using a remover or puller. Remove the nut and detach the tie-rod end. Finally, unscrew the tie-rod end from the tie-rod. To install the tie-rod end, thread it onto the marked position and insert the stud into the steering knuckle arm. Tighten the jam nut securely and install the nut on the stud, tightening it to the proper torque specifications. Install the wheel and lug nuts, lower the vehicle, and tighten the lug nuts to the suitable torque specifications.
