Q:
How do you remove the Camshaft Position Sensor for Chevrolet Cobalt,HHR and Saturn ION? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the 2.0L supercharged engine, start by turning the ignition key to OFF and disconnecting the battery's negative terminal cable. Locate the CMP sensor on the left end of the cylinder head and disconnect its electrical connector. Remove the underhood fuse/relay box for better access. Then, remove the CMP sensor retaining bolts and take out the sensor. For installation, rotate the engine to TDC for the number 4 piston and align the timing mark on the CMP sensor shaft with the timing mark on the sensor body. Replace and lubricate the O-ring with clean engine oil, and securely tighten the CMP sensor bolts. For the 2.4L and 2007 & later 2.2L engine, start by turning the ignition key to OFF and removing the engine cover. If necessary, remove the air filter housing. Unplug the electrical connector from the CMP sensor and remove the retaining bolt to take out the sensor. For installation, lubricate the O-ring with clean engine oil and securely tighten the CMP sensor bolt. For the 2.0L turbocharged engine, if you're removing the intake sensor only, relieve the fuel system pressure and remove the fuel line from the high-pressure fuel pump to the fuel rail. If you're removing both the intake and exhaust sensors, disconnect the sensor electrical connector and remove the retaining bolt. Take out the sensor and O-ring. For installation, lubricate the O-ring with clean engine oil and check for fuel leaks after starting the engine.
